On may 2nd 2011 U.S marines raided a compound in the Abbotabad city of Pakistan and killed Osama Bin Laden the leader of Al-Qaeda a global islamist terrorist organization. the operation was code named Neptune Spear and was kept secret even from its ally Pakistan whose timely intel made possible this operation. In this blog we would be discussing this operation without any prejuidice to each of the side. Osama bin laden was suspected by U.S to be the main culprit behind 9/11 attacks and U.S asked the then commander in cheif of Taliban Mullah Umar to hand him over but Mullah Umar asked for the actionable evidence of OBLs involvement in 9/11 attacks which U.S was unable to provide, so they launched an offensive against Afghan Taliban and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan in october 2001 with Pakistan being their prime strategic partner against their Global war on terror. Pakistan army and its ISI helped U.S apprehending Al Qaeda leadership which fleed to Pakistan after U.S invasion of Afghanistan, some 750 operatives of Al qaeda were arrested, killed or handed over to U.S by Pakistani army and its intelligence agencies, which included some high value targets like Abu Zubaida, Abu Nasim, Khalid Sheikh, Abu Musab, Yasir Al Jaziri and many others. Despite helping U.S in their Global War on terror U.S unilaterally decided to raid the compound in which Osama was living since 2009 reportedly ISI was sharing intel with CIA about the whereabouts of Osama from 2009, isi shared the the data of survillance of two mobile numbers which were operating as courrier between Al Qaeda leadership and Osama, the numbers were identified as of two Kuwaiti brothers Abu ahmed al Kuwaiti and Tariq. In feb 2011 ISI captured Umer Patek of kuwaiti origin and asked CIA to provide staelite data of his phone which they were tracking they denied as they have zeroed down on the house named Pathan House in Bilal Town where Osama was staying, it was made only possible because of timely intel which ISI shared with CIA about two Kuwaiti brothers which led to the raid on OBLs compound. when Generl Kiani was informed about the crash of helicopter on the night of 2nd may he issued an executive order to than Air Cheif Marshall Rao Qamar Suleiman to scramble F 16s and shot anything coming or going out of international borders of Pakistan but to that time U.S choppers had left the premises of Pakistan but some sources say that a U.S chopper which were carrying the dead body of Osama was locked by Pakistani F 16 but not confirmed. But still the Pakistani military leadership was expecting some sort of decency from Obama administration to applaud the role of Pakistani army and its intelligence agency in that operation because right after the operation Obama called President Zardari and thanked him for providing the timely intel about the whereabouts of OBLs compound but ironically in morning speech Obama declared unilateral victory without mentioning Pakistan. The allegations which followed against Pakistan were completely illogical and based on prejudice because in a meeting with Generel Kiani and ISI chief Generel Ahmed Shuja Pasha the than ISAF commander Generel Stanley MacChrystal accepted that only 10% attacks were coming from Pakistan based haqqani network against US and NATO forces remaining 90% were coming from local Afghan Taliban factions, so the argument which was presented in western media that Pakistani army were harboring AL Qaeda and protecting Osama Bin Laden in a compound near to Pakistan military academy Kakul was completely irrational because once a Taliban Cheif Mullah Umar lived for year’s near U.S forward operating base Wolverine in Zabul so than U.S were protecting Mullah Umar? In military circles there is a terminology used for such cases ” Intelligence failure” yes OBL getting access to a compound near to Pakistan military academy was intelligence failure at Pakistan end so was the U.S intelligence failure that Mullah Umar lived for year’s near U.S forward operating base without being caught. Going back to the day’s of U.S invasion in Afghanistan when U.S naval task force 58 head Brigedier Generel James Mattis got to know that Osama had sought refuge in Tora Bora mountains he decided to cordon off the area from all side’s and than launch search operation to catch or kill Osama, he was ordered from Higher ups to withdraw, which than took U.S ten year’s to apprehend same militant by spending billions of dollar’s and loosing thousands of Afghan, Pakistani and U.S lives in a never ending so called war on terror.
