MBS on Tuesday 27th April said that we want peace with Iran in the larger interest of region to help stabilize it but he is definitely concerned about Iran’s nuclear program and support for militant proxies across the region which Saudis feel a threat to their interests but he said that we are working on it with Iran through different channels. Saudi and Irani diplomats reportedly held talks in Iraq to speed up the process of normalization. Iran foreign ministry spokes person also welcomed the Saudi approach to resolve different issues through dialuoge. Why? Saudis are feeling some serious heat from Biden administration on their bad human rights record, detention of women rights activists, disastrous Yemen war and Jamal khasogji murder which everyone knows MBS was involved in it. To help pacify the U.S attitude MBS is signaling to Biden administration that we can also make peace with Iran and can end the Yemen war by making concessions to it’s regional rival Iran if their concerns are addressed properly. MBS is aware that Joe Biden is a seasoned politician and committed Democrat with some values unlike Trumps opportunistic and self centered attitude which MBS can handle with its petro dollar’s. Another realization might be MBS own Hawkish attitude and unrealistic foreign policy desires for the region which he thinks are proving fatal for his throne be it Yemen war, Qatar blockade, assassination of Jamal khasogji and unnecessary internel political changes which he pursued. All these combined have synergistically compelled MBS to normalize with Iran and to make himself a desirable candidate for Biden administration to be their watchdog in the region and not feel left out in future designs of the region and remain a legitimate stakeholder in the affairs of Middle East.
